NVIDIA GTC Day 2: Open AI Model Offensive and Nemotron Coalition Launch with Mistral AI and 8 Leading Labs

On Day 2 of GTC 2026, NVIDIA announced the establishment of the 'Nemotron Coalition,' a new consortium with global AI labs to advance the development of open frontier-level foundation models. The Nemotron Coalition announcement is a symbolic event highlighting the growing importance of open source in AI development. NVIDIA's initiative to build an open ecosystem in frontier-level AI research, where closed model development has been the mainstream, will have a significant impact on the industry.
