Claude AI Now Adding 1 Million Users Daily, Experiencing Rapid Growth
Anthropic's AI, Claude, is experiencing rapid growth, adding over 1 million new users daily. The company's refusal to work with the U.S. Department of Defense has garnered user support, leading to a surge in downloads and active users, outpacing competitors. Its ethical AI development stance is being recognized.
Anthropic's AI assistant, Claude, is expanding its user base at a staggering pace. According to the company, it is now registering over one million new users per day, and the momentum continues to build. This rapid growth is believed to be fueled by consumer support for the company's refusal to deal with the U.S. Department of Defense.
According to data analytics firm Appfigures, daily downloads of Claude's mobile app in the U.S. reached 149,000 on March 2, surpassing competitor ChatGPT's 124,000. This suggests that users are turning to Claude as a new alternative. Furthermore, data from another market research firm, Similarweb, shows that Claude's daily active users (DAUs) on iOS and Android devices reached 11.3 million on March 2. This is a phenomenal 183% increase from approximately 4 million at the beginning of the year. The DAU count of 5 million at the beginning of February further indicates that its growth is accelerating.
Claude's growth is also remarkable in terms of web traffic. According to Similarweb, traffic to Claude's website increased by 43% month-over-month in February and 297.7% year-over-year. In contrast, ChatGPT's web traffic decreased by 6.5% during the same period, suggesting a potential migration of users to Claude. Anthropic itself has acknowledged this growth, announcing that Claude has become the #1 app on the U.S. App Store and has topped the charts in 15 other countries. The company also stated that daily active users have more than tripled since the beginning of 2026, and the number of paid subscribers has doubled.
This rapid growth is likely not unrelated to Anthropic's demonstrated strong commitment to ethical AI development. The company has made its stance clear, refusing to allow its AI systems to be used for mass surveillance or lethal autonomous weapons. This ethical position has garnered strong support from users concerned about privacy and the weaponization of AI, resulting in an explosive increase in user numbers. Reports of a growing number of ChatGPT uninstalls highlight a shift in user values within the AI market.
